Pilates is an exercise method developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. He famously said “You will feel better in ten sessions, look better in twenty sessions, and have a completely new body in thirty sessions.” The Pilates method combines specific exercises with focus on form and alignment to retrain the body move more efficiently by engaging as many muscle as possible, most importlant the deep core. The Pilates Method will not just develop your core, but will develop large and small muscle groups and train everything to work together so everyday movement is more efficient and effortless. Pilates is the perfect method for maintaining strength and flexibility and staving off issues that develop as people age such as back pain, poor posture, loss of flexibility and loss of balance. Pilates helps prevent injuries that can develop from repetitive movements in other modalities and sports as well as rehabilitate injuries. Overall Pilates keep your body flexible, strong and pain free and enables you to do any activity or sport you love.

about me - how i discovered pilates

I am a Classical Pilates instructor teaching private, semi private and group classes in New York City. I started practicing Pilates in 2006 when I was looking for an easy way to stay active. I had no idea Pilates would completely transform my body - relieve my lower back pain and knee weakness, improve my posture and migraines, and develop muscle strength and flexibility that lasted even through periods when I could not practice as much as usual. In 2013, I followed my passion and became a certified Pilates instructor to spread the benefits of Pilates to as many people as I could. I am still constantly surprised at how Pilates works for everybody, whether you are younger or older, flexible or inflexible, an athlete or a true beginner. My goal as a Pilates instructor is to transform and rehabilitate bodies the same way Pilates transformed me. I have seen first hand how Pilates shapes your body and mind and truly gives you complete control of your body. My practice focuses not only on sculpting the body and toning muscles, but on helping clients relieve physical pain, improve posture and alignment and achieve maximum flexibility, strength, and ultimately control of their bodies.

Pilates is a fitness regimen developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s. The regimen is comprised of a specific set of exercises that can be advanced upon and added to as the body gets stronger. The focus of PIlates is the “core” or abdominal muscles, the spine, proper body alignment, and overall flexibility and strength. This is attained through the core principles: concentration, control, centering, focus, precision, and breath. Pilates is also a rehabilitative regimen that relieves chronic pain, aids recovery from injuries, and improves overall performance in any activity from dance to running to sports.
